News » 28.10.2024 - India: 'The floriculture sector in Chikkamagaluru district has been impacted by the recent rain'
The floriculture sector in Chikkamagaluru district has been significantly impacted by the recent rain and the end of Ayudha Puja and Vijayadashami celebrations. The demand for flowers has declined drastically, and supplies from Bengaluru are down to a trickle, impacting vendors and growers alike.
Despite the current downturn, there is still some optimism over the upcoming Diwali festivities.During Dasara, flower prices had soared, with jasmine garlands selling for as much as Rs 400 a piece, for what is usually priced around Rs 50. However, since then, there has been a fall in demand, with incessant rain further exacerbating the situation.
Local traders have significantly reduced their procurement of chrysanthemums from Bengaluru, with some bringing only two to three bags daily instead of the usual 30-40 kg bags.
