News » 11.04.2024 - Peru's 2023/2024 fresh mango season ends with low production

Peru's 2023/2024 fresh mango season is coming to an end with a marked decrease in exports. In the last week reported, exports reached 1,447 tons, i.e. 68% less than in the same period of the previous year. To date, Peru has exported 80,000 tons of fresh mango this season, which is 69% below the previous season, mainly affected by climatic adversities that impacted production.

In terms of destination markets, there has been a noticeable change in import preferences compared to the previous season. The Netherlands has become the main market, accounting for 41% of exports, followed by the United States with 32%, and Spain, which managed to displace the United Kingdom, with 7%. Despite an overall decrease in exports, shipments to the Netherlands reached 33,163 tons, 66% less than in the 2022/2023 campaign, but enough to be the main destination as shipments to the United States decreased by 74%. 5,488 tons were shipped to Spain, 51% less than in the previous season.

The number of Peruvian agro-exporters participating in the campaign also decreased, going from 265 last season to fewer than 200 companies in this one. This panorama reflects the challenges faced by the Peruvian mango industry in the current season, marked by an adverse production environment, and changes in the dynamics of international markets.
