News » 12.09.2025 - Nearly 25 million ornamental plants were grown in Mersin in 2024

Mersin is the country's leader in greenhouse production, producing large quantities of fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. The Mediterranean Region, where greenhouse farming is most prevalent due to its favorable climate, is a prominent example of a regional economy fueled by greenhouse production. Mersin is the leading city in greenhouse production, particularly in the Mediterranean region, where fresh fruits and vegetables are prominent. However, Mersin has also become a rising star in greenhouse and ornamental plant cultivation.

In Turkey, a country blessed mainly with sunshine and abundant water resources, greenhouse farming is also used to extend the growing season and ensure crop yields throughout summer and winter. This production method, used extensively in Mersin for fruit and vegetable production, has also achieved great success with ornamental plants.

In Mersin, greenhouse cultivation is carried out on 175,975 hectares, producing millions of tons of vegetables and fruit. Of these greenhouse cultivation areas, 102,615 hectares are used for vegetables, 73,360 hectares for fruit, and 1,107 hectares for ornamental plants. While the hectares of ornamental plants are lower than in other areas, production numbers reached millions by 2024. A total of 25 million ornamental plants were produced in existing greenhouse cultivation areas. With the production of ornamental plants used in national and international trade, Mersin is paving the way for new leadership in production.
