News » 02.09.2025 - Dutch tulip grower takes steps towards sustainability
Tulip grower Ronico has grown 330 million tulip clusters – 200 million in their developed greenhouse and 130 million in the developed area.
A step towards sustainability
The company decided to take a step towards sustainability every year. Installing its own solar panels is a key step. To achieve this, Ronico collaborated with two key partners: Sungrow, a global leader in sustainable energy, and Zonzo, a solar panel supplier. With these two experts at its side, Ronico now benefits from 4,666 solar panels and 48 inverters. This generates 1.7 MW per year, which more than covers the company's annual consumption of 6.7 kW. Safety and efficiency were two key factors in choosing the solution.
"With our focus on a sustainable future, this project is a perfect fit for Sungrow. Ronico is a company that truly invests in sustainable solutions. For example, they opened an innovative and secure greenhouse this year. With this greenhouse, the company is taking an important step towards a sustainable future in tulip forcing. We're also seeing changing consumer demand in the market. They increasingly value tulip production methods. We're proud that we can contribute in this way," said Sungrow in a statement.
"Thanks to the new PV system, we can create larger peak demand during the day in the summer. We have more capacity during the summer," says Jeroen Laan, Manager at Ronico.
"With current market developments, including grid congestion, PV systems and energy storage systems are becoming increasingly popular. To address the challenge of grid congestion, energy storage is the solution. We believe that's where the future lies," the Sungrow statement continued.
Sungrow and Zonzo have been collaborating for 15 years in the field of commercial installations. Nick Vriend, Operations Manager at Zonzo: "Sungrow products are easy to install, robust, and high-quality. In terms of maintenance, you can be sure they'll be hassle-free. You can also count on Sungrow to have a suitable solution for every customer's need."
An example for the industry
Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in the horticultural sector; organizations are investing in new solutions for energy-efficient production, among other things. This is also the case with Ronico, a company that prioritizes innovation.
With an ever-increasing demand for energy due to automation, for example, the demand for sustainable energy solutions is also growing. Storage systems are more important than ever, and in an industry that cares about nature, there's no doubt that utilizing natural resources is the optimal solution.
