News » 09.07.2025 - India: Kashmir Agricultural Director visits floriculture center

On Thursday, Director of Agriculture in Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, visited the Model Floriculture Center in Nunar, Ganderbal. During his visit, he dispatched the first-ever shipment of dried lavender flower spikes to Dehradun.

In his discussions with officers, Director Shah emphasized how economically valuable the lavender crop is and referred to it as one of the best cash crops globally. He explained that there's been a growing demand for high-quality lavender plants, and they're working to attract enthusiastic agricultural entrepreneurs to invest in this aromatic crop.

Sartaj mentioned that promoting lavender farming in more areas aims to create job opportunities, especially for young people. He also highlighted plans to use previously uncultivable and barren lands across the valley for growing lavender.

Speaking about Agri-Tourism, the Director noted that three departmental farms are already cultivating lavender to enhance both the agriculture and tourism industries.
