News » 09.05.2025 - EGACE to unveil improved system: Greece: Improved sun-tracking greenhouse system at upcoming general assembly
The EU-funded Regace Project will introduce its groundbreaking fully responsive and sun-tracking system for solar panels inside greenhouses at its upcoming General Assembly, taking place from May 6-8, 2025, in Volos, Greece.
Hosted by the University of Thessaly, the event will bring together all partners of the REGACE project, which develops innovative agrivoltaics technology to sustainably increase greenhouse yields and improve electricity production.
The improved version of the system represents a major technological leap from the original sensor-based motor control setup, transforming it into a comprehensive smart platform. With real-time monitoring, online data access, and adaptive light management, the system ensures optimal greenhouse conditions while maximizing energy efficiency.
"We are getting closer to our aim of developing a highly adaptable, scalable, and robust system that has the potential to revolutionize greenhouse climate management," said Regace coordinator Dr. Ibrahim Yehia of the Alzahrawy Society. "Regace aims to establish its system as a leader in intelligent greenhouse management, leveraging AI to enable full climate control while advancing sustainable agriculture and renewable energy integration."
A key component of this advancement is the integration of an industrial PC with built-in GPIOs (general-purpose input/output), which significantly enhances the greenhouse climate management system. This upgrade provides greater stability, scalability, and precise environmental control, making it an ideal solution for demanding industrial applications.
The fully responsive and sun-tracking system is designed to optimize greenhouse climate management by incorporating real-time adjustments based on environmental conditions. The system's responsiveness ensures efficient control over sunlight exposure, preventing crop stress and maximizing energy production.
Currently, the system offers robust real-time monitoring and control. Future developments will focus on enhancing intelligence, efficiency, and scalability through AI-driven optimizations, advanced agricultural recommendations, and improved system integration.
The Regace Project has already completed the installation of an agrivoltaics responsive tracking system enriched with CO2 in a greenhouse at six test sites in Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece, and Israel.
