News » 29.10.2026 - Italian nursery reduces algae with water treatment technology
Eurovivai Srl Società Agricola, a professional horticultural nursery in Italy, grows and produces plants and trees. Reliable water quality is important for both cultivation and daily operations. To limit algae growth in its water basin, the company uses USAF™ transmitters from Ultramins.
Eurovivai has ordered transmitters from Ultramins twice. The nursery currently uses one unit in its water basin and says it works well. The difference the transmitter makes became especially clear after a lightning strike. "The transmitter was out of service for about two weeks, and within a short time the basin was full of algae again. Once we switched it back on, the difference quickly became visible again," Eurovivai says.
The effect is also noticeable elsewhere on the nursery. Eurovivai irrigates with water from the treated basin and sees fewer algae patches on the ground cover than before the basin was treated. As a result, the water system and growing environment stay cleaner. Pots on the growing floors also stay cleaner, so less time is needed to prepare them for delivery.
Ground cover: untreated irrigation water
Eurovivai has not had its water tested for pathogens. A fellow grower who also uses Ultramins transmitters did have this checked, according to Eurovivai, and reported a strong decrease in pathogen levels in his water. Eurovivai cannot confirm this effect in its own situation through measurements.
The nursery also reports no longer seeing losses from Phytophthora. However, it notes that it switched to a more open, airy type of potting mix at the same time, so it is not possible to determine what role the transmitters play.
What Eurovivai can assess for itself is that the basin remains under control, the nursery has less trouble with algae, and the plants are growing well.
