News » 27.10.2026 - A 'robot dog' to promote the use of robotics in agriculture

The National Agri-Food Technology Center (CTAEX) has unveiled an autonomous quadruped robotic platform at its facilities to promote the integration of innovative technologies into agriculture, automate tasks, and collect agronomically relevant information.

The unveiling took place within the framework of the Agrhound Supra-regional Operational Group, an innovative project exploring the potential applications of autonomous robotics and other advanced technologies in agriculture to improve the efficiency and precision of crop management.

During the event, attendees learned about the platform's key technical features, designed to handle diverse agricultural environments and support sensors and monitoring systems. Its quadrupedal design enables movement across varied terrain and through cultivation areas where conventional platforms may be limited.

The day began with a technical presentation in the CTAEX Boardroom, outlining Agrhound's objectives, the robot's capabilities, and progress to date. This was followed by a practical demonstration at the CTAEX experimental farm, showcasing how the robot operates and moves under field conditions.

The Agrhound project adapts and evaluates this technology in two distinct agricultural settings -vine cultivation and blackberry cultivation in macro-tunnels- to assess its versatility and potential across different production systems.

Vineyard work is being carried out in collaboration with Bodegas Familiares Matarromera in Valladolid, while blackberry trials are underway at the Social Berries 4.0 facilities in Huelva.

These trials will assess the platform's mobility and navigation, how well it adapts to each crop's conditions, and its potential to integrate technologies for collecting agronomic data.

Integrating robotics into agriculture creates an opportunity to move toward more digitalized, efficient, and sustainable production models, with automation and sensor-collected data supporting decision-making.

Agrhound is a project developed by a supra-regional working group made up of CTAEX, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, Social Berries 4.0, SpectralGeo, and SOLTEL, in collaboration with the Prodti Foundation.

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA), as part of the funding allocated to innovative projects run by supra-regional operational groups.
