News » 11.09.2025 - Mexican flower blooms in India
For the first time, the Mexican flower Eustoma has bloomed in Sanatanpali village under Jujumura block of Sambalpur district. The Subuja Sanatanpali Polyhouse had received 2,000 saplings from CSIR, Lucknow. These saplings were planted on April 14, on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.
After four months, the first phase of blooming has begun, with approximately 20 flowers blooming. Prachi Patel, the CEO of the polyhouse, expressed optimism that many more flowers would bloom in the coming days. Experts believe this is the first Eustoma cultivation in Odisha.
Since the flower requires a specific temperature 21 to 24°C during the day and 16 to 18°C at night the polyhouse has arranged all necessary facilities to maintain these conditions.
According to farmer Manabodh Barik, the saplings grew well at first after being planted. However, pests and diseases quickly attacked the plants. The local farmers faced uncertainty because they were cultivating this flower for the first time. The plants were eventually saved thanks to CSIR experts' guidance and proper pesticide spraying.
