News » 10.09.2025 - "I never expected this for myself, but I'm a first-generation farmer"

Shannon Allen is a co-owner of Bloom Hill Farm in Lake Township. While she never imagined herself as a farmer, she loves every minute of it.

Allen, 40, graduated from North Canton Hoover High School and has a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Mount Union. Today, she partners with her husband to manage and operate a flower farm.

"I am a first-generation farmer — I never expected this for myself but am so happy I am doing something I love," she said. "After graduating from college, I worked in communications and project management. My husband and I started the farm in 2015 and three years ago, we started farming full time."

Allen said she loves growing flowers and sharing them.

"When we started the farm, we had no idea what we were doing; we were just figuring it out as we went," she said. "What makes me the happiest is that I have found a job that I wake up excited and energized for each day. I get to be here at home with my kids, getting them on and off the school bus every day, and being able to attend everything they do as their biggest fan."
