On the eve of Ganeshotsav, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Flower Market in Pune witnessed a massive turnout of customers.

The market was buzzing with excitement as retail customers and bulk buyers, retail florists, flower decorators, event people alike flocked to purchase flowers and leaves for worship and decoration. Despite the availability of plastic flowers in city's local market, customers showed a preference for fresh flowers to welcome their beloved Lord Ganesha.

This year's Ganeshotsav will be 11 days long, starting on August 27. The festive season will continue with Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali, keeping the spirit of celebration alive.

Flowers that are in demand for the festival include the kamal (lotus flower), pandanus (screwpine), sunflowers, orchids, tuberose, jarbera, blue daisy, golden rod, aster, marigold, and champak.

There are 21 different types of leaves used for worship, including the Prosopis cineraria, Eclipta prostrata, Aegle marmeles, Achyranthes aspera, and more.

The market saw a significant surge in prices, with marigold flowers selling for ₹100 -120 ( 40-50), per kilogram, Tuberose flowers were sold at ₹1000-1200 (300-400) per kilogram, and lotus flowers were priced at ₹250 for bunch of 10 flowers and pandanus ₹200 for a one corn (Kanis).

To manage the large crowds, the road leading to the market was closed to heavy vehicles, and a special police force was deployed to maintain order.
