After a hiatus of nearly a decade, Brussels Airlines has reinitiated its direct flight service to Nairobi, Kenya, signifying an expansion in its operations and a developmental stride in Kenya's aviation landscape.

The service recommenced with the arrival of an Airbus A330-300 at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), indicating a strengthened link between Europe and East Africa. The event saw the presence of notable figures including Mohamed Daghar from the State Department for Transport, Julius Bitok from State Department for Immigration & Citizen Services, Belgian Ambassador Peter Maddens, and Kenya Airports Authority Board Chairman Caleb Kositany.

Kositany highlighted the significance of this resumption to Nairobi's position as a regional aviation hub and discussed the anticipated enhancements to JKIA's capacity for handling increased passenger and flight volumes. Zlatko Zlatic, representing Lufthansa Cargo in East Africa, detailed the cargo capacity of the flights, emphasizing the importance of this route for the transportation of Kenyan exports such as flowers and vegetables. Brussels Airlines, as Belgium's national carrier and a member of the Lufthansa Group, along with PML Nairobi's engagement in the inaugural cargo shipment, underscores the economic and logistical benefits anticipated from this resumed service.
